Training courses are offered in one of two formats:

  • Courses for individuals are scheduled regularly at locations across North America, with registration open to anyone on a per-seat basis
  • Customized group courses are provided for specific organizations, at a time and location selected by the organization

Interested in a future course? Please contact us at [email protected] if you are interested in more information on customized group courses, or if you would like to participate as an individual but the dates and times of the upcoming courses listed below do not suit your needs. Knowing that people are interested in a future course helps us schedule when and where to offer them next!

Upcoming Courses

Course: Introduction to landscape state-and-transition simulation modeling

This two-day course provides a foundation for developing and running state-and-transition simulation models of landscape change using the ST-Sim software. The course covers state-and-transition simulation modeling concepts, how to use ST-Sim to create simple models of both vegetation dynamics and land use change, and how to run those models and interpret the results. Case studies using state-and-transition simulation models in a range of systems will also be presented, along with insights into how to organize your own model building initiative. Hands-on exercises are included throughout the course. Additional course details.

Audience: Scientists, managers and analysts from any and all land management agencies, including new and undecided users of ST-Sim

Sponsor: The U.S. Geological Survey's Invasive Species Science Branch

Location: Fort Collins Science Center, Fort Collins, Colorado

Dates: November 28-29, 2017

Instructors: Colin Daniel and Leonardo Frid

Cost:

  • Individual: $775 (early registration prior to and including October 27th); $875 (regular registration)
  • Group rate (up to 15 participants): $7750
  • Students and postdocs are eligible for a 50% discount, subject to availability

Registration: To register, see Upcoming Events

Course: Advanced topics in landscape state-and-transition simulation modeling

This two-day course builds upon the material covered in the introductory course and provides a more in-depth look at various features and options for developing and running state-and-transition simulation models of landscape change using the ST-Sim software. The course includes lectures and hands-on exercises on a variety of advanced topics, including accounting for uncertainty in model inputs, adding continuous state variables, and controlling ST-Sim programatically using the new rsyncrosim R package. Additional course details.

Audience: Scientists, managers and analysts from any and all land management agencies with previous experience in ST-Sim and/or landscape modeling
